Our Story
A Path of Traditional Wisdom, Passed Down Through Generations
Medicine Bag Project didn’t begin in a lab or a marketing office. It began in the mountains, farms, and forests, where generations of quiet practitioners learned from the Earth, from experience, and from each other.
Our story is one of preservation, intention, and a deep, unwavering belief in the power of traditional knowledge - for both animals and people.

The Spark That Lit the Fire
Long before there was a website, there was a question:
“What happens to this knowledge if it isn’t carried forward?”
Drehne asked himself that as a boy growing up in a family line that followed what they called “Ancient Traditions.” He listened to his grandmothers speak about the old ways - the ways of the ancestors - and began documenting plant uses under their direction, as well as elders and old-timers (within and outside his family). While few in his family practiced it, he felt a responsibility to continue it.
Meanwhile, Renina was raised in the mountains of East Tennessee, surrounded by folk wisdom. Her great-grandmother - a renowned midwife who made her own formulations - inspired a life shaped by deep connection to plants and people.
They were raised in different places, but with the same knowing:
Nature restores balance, if we listen to it.
And we have a responsibility to preserve that knowing.

Why the Name "Medicine Bag"?
Across time and cultures, medicine bags held sacred items - plants, stones, prayers, rituals - carried close to the body or used in ceremony. They weren’t just pouches. They were power. They were protection. They represented Right Relationship in physical form.
Medicine Bag Project carries that spirit forward. Every formula we make - for horses or people - is crafted with care, reverence, and purpose. Nothing is mass-produced. Every blend is intentional.
From Horses to Humans (and Back Again)
Years ago, Drehne worked in an onsite equine rehab program that used ancient energy principles, top-tier feed, and herbal blends not available anywhere else. The results? Horses returned to performance after “career-ending” diagnoses.
Clients asked, “What can I give my horse at home?” There was nothing on the market they could trust - so they created it themselves.
- MBC (Medicine Bag Complete) - A full-spectrum equine support base
- Ligdon - A ligament and tendon formula supporting structural integrity
- Digestive Spices - A gut support blend that activates natural processes
They’ve been approached by universities, labs, and billionaires - all asking for formulas, buyouts, or "deals." The answer is always no. This isn’t about profit. It’s about protecting what works - and what’s sacred.
The Folk Side - Health for Humans
While equine support is the foundation, their people-focused products - tinctures, creams, and specialty blends - are just as rooted in tradition.
Using a technique known as the “waterfall” process (or Foss in Old Norse), tinctures are continuously infused rather than steeped. The result? Potency that surprises even experienced herbalists.
“These could be diluted tenfold and still be potent. But we won’t. That’s not what this is about.”
From breath support to skin recovery, the results speak for themselves - even if Renina and Drehne are careful about how publicly they’re spoken.
Meet the Founder & Architect

Founder / Renina Pearce - The Hands and Heart
Raised in the mountains by women who healed with plants, grit, and love, Renina is the maker - the one who tinctures, blends, and supports each customer with care. She’s also the heart behind the brand’s growth.
“There’s something sacred about turning earth’s bounty into something that helps someone - or an animal - feel better again.”
She always dreamed of a business rooted in earth-based support. When she met Drehne, she knew she’d found it.

Architect / Drehne Pearce - The Keeper of the Old Ways
Focused and rooted in generational knowledge, Drehne is the architect of the formulas. He’s studied energy, body systems, and traditional wellness methods for decades.
“This isn’t voluntary, but it’s mine to carry. I’m here to preserve it - and pass it forward if I can.”
Preservation Through Sharing
Medicine Bag Project allows them both to live their mission. Renina brings sacred products into the world. Drehne continues the work of preservation - ensuring that what was almost lost, is now carried forward.
What Guides Us: Right Relationship
This isn’t just a brand. It’s a sacred path - one based on the principle of Right Relationship, a concept found in tribal and earth-based traditions around the world.
It means balance. Harmony. Returning to the natural order. Whether it’s a horse, a person, or a patch of land, our work supports the process of restoring Right Relationship - through formulation, connection, and care.
This Is More Than a Product Line
This is a preservation project. A calling. A promise.
To honor the past.
To protect what works.
To restore Right Relationship - in a way that’s whole, natural, and true.
“We don’t do this because it’s easy. We do it because it matters.”
